Friday Five...

Happy Friday, folks.  Well, it's Halloween Eve & my Friday Five will be about my favorite horror flicks.  So, lets get this train a-moving.

  1.  The one, the only, Psycho.  This movie is one of my favorite movies of all-time & I have my cousin, Magnolia, to thank for that.  She had a little party one night & we watched this movie.  I've been hooked ever since.  I have this movie on VHS & DVD along with all the sequels & the remake on DVD.  I cannot stand the remake but I thought to finish out my collection, I should have it.  I should try watching Bates Motel on TV but I'm so afraid that it will not live up to my expectations - Alfred Hitchcock & Anthony Perkins are hard to beat.

  2.  Amityville Horror.  I've read the book, seen the original & went to the theater to see the remake.  Everything about this story interests me.  It took me a long time to be able to watch this movie alone at night but when I finally did, I was so proud of myse…

Thankful Thursday...

I am thankful...that I have such an understanding boss.  She really is great.  I totally forgot about an appointment that my mom wanted me to attend with her & my boss didn't even think for a second about letting me take a later lunch & making up time.  She's awesome...but she may not thought twice about it as I'm doing her a big favor today & purchasing her Sundance tickets as she's in court.  Ha!

I am thankful...that even though I bitch & complain about Trouble that she's at least cute.  I mean, look at some of these pictures from her senior picture session...or just picture session if she doesn't get her shit together & pass all her classes.

I am thankful...that I finally finished Deadlocked by Charlaine Harris.  I only have one more left of the Sookie Stackhouse series to read but I really think that I read slower if I'm reading an actual book & not on my Kindle.  Is that weird?  Anywho, I started The 5th Wave last night.  I downlo…

Tuesday Talk...

Hello, hello, hello.  Well, it was one Hell of a weekend that I just had.  I'm still recovering & on top of that my work has been insane, I had to deal with a highly emotional Trouble last night & I'm getting sick.  Yeah...or something like that.

I wanna talk about the weekend though since I didn't get a chance to do my Musical Monday/Weekend Update yesterday.  My cousin, Jennifer, got married over the weekend & I was a bridesmaid.  So, I had the day off on Friday to do some errands, get a pedicure & help decorate the reception hall before the rehearsal & such.  Well, the good Lord thought that I didn't have enough to deal with so I had a horrible headache on top of everything else.  Ugh.

Everything went well though - the decorations were set out, the rehearsal was attended & much food was consumed at the rehearsal dinner.

The next morning, it was up & at 'em right away - hair, makeup, back home to gather everything else up & head t…

WILW...

This will be the What I'm Loving Wednesday:  Chicago Edition.  Since I haven't had a chance to share with you my anniversary trip to Chicago, I'm gonna do it today with what I loved about it.  Here we go!

I'm loving...that we made a quick detour & toured the Cave of the Mounds. It was pretty cool but at one point, I got a little claustrophobic.  Eeek!

I'm loving...Navy Pier.  That was probably my favorite place.   A beautiful look at the city, restaurants, shopping & an IMAX theater  where we saw Crimson Peak (my review on the movie is here).  Wonderful.

I'm loving...all the people watching I did.  I love doing that & Chicago is a great place to do that. I saw this gal that reminded me of Helena from Orphan Black.   I was waiting for her to start eating!  Tee hee!

I'm loving...that we got to go see Tom Rhodes perform at Zanies.  He put on a good show. I also found a love of Bailey's in my hot cocoa/coffee.  Yum!

I'm loving...that we got to …

My Thoughts On...

IMDB's summary:  "In the aftermath of a family tragedy, an aspiring author is torn between love for her childhood friend and the temptation of a mysterious outsider. Trying to escape the ghosts of her past, she is swept away to a house that breathes, bleeds - and remembers."

My thoughts:  I expected it to be scary than it was...maybe I'm dulled now to scares but it just didn't scare me enough.  I thought that it could have been maybe taken down a little bit, it seemed really long in parts.  However, I really liked the cast that they had for the movie, I thought they all did well & I like all the actors, so that helped a lot.

I thought that all the characters were well liked except for Lucille played by Jessica Chastain (who I always confuse with Bryce Dallas Howard) but you aren't supposed to like her, she's evil & you know that she's a bit off from the first moment you see her.  I thought that Tom Hiddleston portrayed the  dark & mysteri…

Tuesday Talk...

I know that yall are probably sick of my tales of sorrow about Trouble but that seems to be my life right now.  Paul & I had a very nice time away in Chicago that I'll talk about in another post but on the way home, I had this anxious feeling & I didn't want to go home cuz I knew that crap with Trouble would be waiting in the wings & it was.  I already had to yell at her this morning about leaving Sunshine alone & after work, I'll be going to suspend her cellphone services.  I told her before school started for the year that she needed to attend class in order to keep her phone.  She has not done so.  I warned her.  I gave her chances but today I had it - SEVEN unexcused/truant absences.  I'm done.  Paul & I fought about it & after she had skipped this afternoon, he agreed that it needed to be done.  Which I told him that I didn't care if he agreed or not, I pay the bill, I gave the requirements, they were not followed so I would suspend it…

Thankful Thursday...

I am thankful...for quick sewing jobs.  I took my bridesmaid dress to an older gal to hem it.  I was over there on Monday, it's done already.  That quick lady!  So, I'm gonna go right after work & pick 'er up.  Little over a week until wedding time!  Awhoo hoo!
I am thankful...that I'll be going out with my friend, Jenny, tonight to get our nails done.  I haven't hung out with her in a long time & we are overdue for some Mandie/Jenny time.  Plus, I need some new nails for the weekend/wedding.
I am thankful...for Under Armour hoodies.  I love them.  They are so comfy & great & if I could wear them every single day, I totally would.  I need to work at an UA store cuz then I totally could & that would be fabulous!

Halloween Playlist...

So, Ms. Erin over at TexErin-in-SydneyLand posted her Rock This Halloween playlist & I knew that I had to post mine as well.  I've got a little bit of everything & thirty-one songs for everyday of the Halloween month.  Ha, ha!

WILW...

I'm loving...that the hubby & I are going down to Chicago for a long weekend to celebrate two years' of wedded bliss...well, I don't know about that part, we do have teenage girls that live under our roof who cause trouble.  Sigh.  We both need some time away even though we were just in Dallas about a month ago.  Ha!

I'm loving...that tonight, I'm going out with my bestie, Kim, for dinner & maybe some adult beverages.  I'm really looking forward to some sweet chili wings & a cheese quesadilla.  Yes, no jokes, that will be my supper & then some glasses of Moscato...I may have to walk home.  Ha, ha!

I'm loving...that Paul & I will be in Chicago cheering on our Packers at some bar there.  I would be in fear of some Bears fans but our argument will be sweet & short:  5 - 0.  That's it.  GO PACK GO!

I'm loving...that my cousin's wedding is next weekend for many reasons:

  1.  I get to be pretty in my bridesmaid dress with my hair…

Tuesday Talk...

So, in yesterday's Musical Monday / Weekend Update post, I had said that I had gotten some information from my cousin on Sunday and that I was saving it for today to talk about.  So, that's what I'm gonna do.  I got a text from Trouble to see if I had seen my cousin's Facebook post.  I hadn't so I went on over to see what the deal was to see this:

So this is a bit of a long post, and for once it's not about a crazy customer I had, but it's still very important to me. In fact, I can feel my heart beating faster as I'm typing this. But today is somewhat of a holiday and I know I would be upset with myself if I didn't take advantage of it. Today is National Coming Out Day and I would like to take this opportunity to officially say that I am gay. This has been a major source of depression and poor self-esteem my whole life, but it's 2015, times have definitely changed, and I'm definitely ready to start living a life where I am comfortable with w…

My Thoughts On...

IMDB's summary:  "A family whose suburban house is haunted by evil forces must come together to rescue their youngest daughter after the apparitions take her captive."

I love me a good scary horror film.  Not a gore fest, just a good ol' scare & this one did not disappoint.  I had watched the original way back in the day & I'm glad that they didn't do just a remake, that they updated it a little bit.  Like usual, the clowns scared the crap outta me - I hate clowns!

I also never liked closets...this movie made sure that I will continue with that dislike.  So, basically, this movie used all my fears against me.  The acting wasn't all that great but it wasn't bad either.  Plus, who really watches horror movies for the Academy Award winning performances?!  I don't.

Poltergeist's Grade: B

My Thoughts On...

IMDB's summary:  "70 year old widower Ben Whittaker has discovered that retirement isn't all it's cracked up to be.  Seizing an opportunity to get back in the game, he becomes a senior intern at an online fashion site, founded and run by Jules Ostin."

After seeing the previews for this flick, I knew that I had to see it, it looked like a great movie.  I was not disappointed one bit.  Robert DeNiro played his so character so well, you really grew to love him & feel what he felt.  There is no doubt in my mind why he is an Academy Award winning actor.  He's fabulous in anything he does.  I mean, seriously, how can you NOT love him?!

The story was great & I was waiting for something horrible to happen & there was something bad that happened but in the end, it was a real feel-good movie & I thoroughly enjoyed it.

The Intern's Grade: B+

Musical Monday / Weekend Update...

Levels by Nick Jonas
What, a Jonas brother song?!  Why, yes.  It's a fun, catchy tune & I love me some fun, catchy tunes so that's what you're gonna get today.  So, you'll listen to it & enjoy, dammit!  Ha, ha!
So, the weekend started with a date to the local wine bar with the hubby.  He wanted me to relax a little bit cuz it's been a trying week.  A couple glasses of wine, then dinner, over to Family Video to get Poltergeist, home to get into our comfies & watch the movie.  He ended up sleeping through most of it but I really thoroughly enjoyed it.
Saturday, got up & moving to get ready for Sunshine's "friend birthday party".  I thought that it went well, all the kids seemed to have a really good time.  Even I did a cartwheel on the floor & took some time on the bars.  The cartwheel didn't end well but I can still do some flips on the bars.  Awhoo hoo!  Sunshine's head coach was there & told me, like, three times that …

Friday Five...

It seems like forever since I've had a chance to do a Friday Five...& it has been.  My last one was on September 11th!  Eeek!  This week, I'm gonna do five things I love about Fall.  With age comes many things & one of those things is a love for everything Fall.

  1.  Football.  I love me some football - Packers & Badgers all the way, baby!  However, my mom too will not allow me to play football either.  ;)

  2.  Mmmm, noodle soup...SOUP...NOODLE SOUP.  Oh, Joey.  I love soup.  We call Sundays in the Fall "Souper Sundays" where we always have some soup going in the crock pot.  Last week, it was chili.  This week, it'll be potato soup.  Yum.

  3.  Wearing sweaters/sweatshirts.  They are just so cozy & nice.  They are the best!  However, I hope not to get stuck in one like poor Phoebe.  Ha, ha!

  4.  Halloween.  I love Halloween.  It really is my favorite holiday.  I've had my Halloween decorations up for about a month already.  Love, love, lov…
